Tenerife - 30.06.2011 -
Speed limit signs on Tenerife's two motorways have to be changed late tonight, giving the Roads Department a major logistics headache and a total 60,000 euro bill for the switch back to the old limit.
As reported last week here, the Spanish government has reinstated the 120 km per hour limit, which takes effect again nearly four months after it was cut to 110 km per hour as a fuel-saving measure.
The U-turn means that Roads Dept. staff will be sent out late tonight to place new stickers on top of the current ones. A spokeswoman said that some disruption will be experienced due to lane closures to allow access to the signs.
The new batch of stickers had to be ordered from the mainland euros but have now arrived, said the spokeswoman.
In all, some 150 road signs need to be altered tonight.
